Hosting an Italian Student

The to-do list below is for the Italian visit that happened in February of 2020 and is included here to illustrate the process for getting approved to host an Italian Exchange student.   The next time the Italian students will visit BHS is in early 2022.

If you are hosting an Italian Exchange Student, here is your to – do list:

By November 10th:

  • Fill out Rotary Host Family Application https://yehub.net/W15-hfapp  (families that hosted in 2018 may be able to select the “renew application option” and simply make updates, however if there is no pre-populated information or if this is your first time hosting, please select the “begin new application” button on the left.) Anything that appears to be more applicable to long-term students can be appended and answered very briefly. The application also requires two references. These are very simple, and done over email. It is very important that you email Lisa Burrows (lisarburrows@gmail.com) and copy Cheree Peterson (cheree.peterson@gmail.com) when each family member has completed the application and your references have submitted on your behalf so that we can confirm receipt with Rotary.
  • Complete LiveScan fingerprinting and the short online “Youth Protection” video that is required for all family members over the age of 18 that will be in your home during the student’s visit. The link for the video will be emailed to all house members over 18 upon completion of the application process. The LiveScan form, along with instructions, is attached below. For LiveScan, we recommend the UPS store next to Lunardi’s, directly behind See’s Candy or you may come to the November 6th Italian Exchange Booster meeting, where parent Dorris Koutantos (certified live scan vendor) will offer the LiveScan service to hosting parents. Approximate cost will be $30 at either location. Upon completion, please return the form in a sealed envelope to Signora Wemple’s room – A212. The forms will be sent to Rotary in batches as they are collected. DO NOT MAIL your form to the PO Box generated through the application process. Please note, there are funds set aside by the Italian Exchange Boosters to refund the cost of fingerprinting if a family needs to be reimbursed.

Between November 10th and December 15th:

  • Home inspections will be scheduled. This consists of a quick visit to your home by one of our Rotary Counselors simply make sure the host student has a bed to sleep on, and to answer any last questions you may have about hosting. Lisa Burrows will be creating a master schedule and ensure all families are signed up for the home visit.

Mid-January 2020:

  • The BHS Italian Exchange Boosters will host a final meeting/orientation to share details regarding the students’ arrival, the students’ itinerary and important dates for group dinners and activities, as well as finalize all Rotary paperwork.

If you have any questions along the way, please feel free to reach out to Signora Wemple or any of the Booster Board Members for assistance.
